Weekly Construction Update, September 23

Posted Friday, September 23

Duke Energy Progress has completed their first phase of night work along Hillsborough Street. They are scheduled to return on October 23, 2016.

Due to the much-needed rain that Raleigh received this week, work on the storm drainage system at the corner of Concord Street and Hillsborough Street was not able to be completed. Crews will continue working in that area and plan to start running the storm drains west towards Rosemary Street starting early next week.

On Thursday, September 22, construction crews installed a large underground electrical vault on Shepherd Street.

A portion of Hillsborough Street was closed to traffic on Thursday night while crews tried to install an insertion valve on a watermain located in front of the ManMur Shopping Center and the Baptist Student Union Building. Due to complications, this work was unable to be completed. Contractors plan to close this section of Hillsborough Street again Thursday, September 29, to complete this task.

PSNC began the relocation of gas lines on Rosemary Street this week. Their work was also hindered by the rain this week, and this work is planned to be completed early next week, at which time they plan to begin relocation work at Friendly Drive.

Before moving to Friendly Drive, PSNC is scheduled on Tuesday, September 23, to cap a gas line in the intersection of Rosemary Street and Hillsborough Street. This work will require that they close Hillsborough Street at this location starting at 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Westbound through traffic will be detoured to Brooks Avenue to Wade Avenue to Faircloth Street, and eastbound traffic will be detoured to Faircloth Street to Wade Avenue to Brooks Avenue. The street is open to local traffic during this time, and businesses along the Hillsborough Street corridor will remain open and be accessible throughout the detour.

While this detour is in place, Pipeline crews will install a watermain tap at the Shepherd Street and Hillsborough Street intersection.

Pipeline crews will also move traffic control devices between Rosemary Street and Stanhope Avenue during this Tuesday night road closure, temporarily shifting traffic to the south side of Hillsborough Street. This temporary traffic shift will allow crews to safely work on a sanitary sewer bypass in front of the Wilmont Apartments. Once the bypass is complete, the traffic will be shifted back to the north side of Hillsborough Street.

Please remember to drive slowly and stay safe in work zone!
