All three new roundabouts are in full operation, and the Hillsborough Street traffic is running smoothly along the corridor.
Paving operations on the side streets wrapped earlier this week, and the new street signage is starting to go up along the corridor. Next up, pavement markings!
The light pavement markings along Hillsborough Street are placement marks that delineate where the new permanent pavement paint will go. A crew is finishing the temporary pavement marks in preparation for the permanent thremo pavement paint scheduled to be placed along the street starting Friday night, June 22.
On Friday evening, June 22 through Sunday night June 24, there will be another weekend through traffic road closure on Hillsborough Street between Faircloth Street and Gardner Street. While the closure is in place crews will be working around the clock on finishing touches along the corridor, including the permanent pavement markings. During the road closure, there is no parking allowed in front of the Stanhope building or on Gardner Street between Hillsborough Street and Clark Avenue to allow room for the detoured traffic.
Westbound through traffic will be detoured to Gardner Street, to Wade Avenue to Faircloth Street and eastbound through traffic will be detoured to Faircloth Street to Wade Avenue to Gardner Street. Businesses along the corridor remain open, and access is available by way of side streets along the corridor.
Roadway construction, including pavement markings, is weather dependent. In the case of rain, the road closure and work will be rescheduled.
Private utility companies continue to work on their underground conversions along the street. Once their work is completed there will be a few more poles removed from along the north side of the corridor.
