The roundabouts at Brooks Avenue and Rosemary/Shepherds Streets have been paved and are now in the full roundabout traffic pattern. The City’s contractor, Pipeline Utilities, started construction on the Dixie Trail and Friendly Drive roundabout on Monday, April 23, and on Thursday, April 26, they poured the inner ring. The roundabout is scheduled to be completed by the end of next week.
The completion of the Dixie/Friendly roundabout will require a weekend road closure, as significant wedging/paving operations take place. Pipeline Utilities has scheduled a road closure for through traffic on Friday night, May 4, and Saturday, May 5, to complete this task.
Businesses will remain open, and access to businesses will be maintained. Traffic will be able to utilize Brooks Avenue and Faircloth Street to access Hillsborough Street, but there will be no access to Hillsborough Street from Dixie Trail while this work takes place. East Village Grill & Bar and the Tobacco Barn Hookah Lounge will still have vehicular access from Dixie Trail but not from Hillsborough Street. The City will send out a notice on Monday, April 30, with further details.
Underground electrical conversions on the north side of the corridor are scheduled to take place at Checkers Pizza & Subs, Subway, and Wolf Mart on Tuesday, May 1, and at Good Guy Vapes and Cutting Edge on Wednesday, May 2. These businesses are expected to be without power during part of the day while the power is converted to the new underground network. Patrons to these businesses may want to call ahead to confirm they are open during their scheduled conversion days.
