Posted Friday, April 21
Starting Sunday, April 23, through Wednesday, April 26, Hillsborough Street will be closed to through traffic from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., while Pipeline Utilities installs a watermain in the intersection of Daisy Street and Hillsborough Street.
Due to contaminated soil at the Daisy Street intersection, extra safety and environmental steps must be taken to remove the contaminated soil and replace it with suitable soil, requiring a longer time frame to complete the watermain installation.
Once the watermain is installed, crews will shift gears and install the sanitary sewer line across the westbound traffic lane. This work will require another weekend detour. Currently, the schedule shows Hillsborough Street being closed to through traffic starting on Friday, April 28, at 8 p.m., remaining closed during the weekend, and reopening Monday morning, May 1, at 6 a.m. Pipeline Utilities will have crews working around the clock to complete this section of the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. (Once the work and road closure has been confirmed another notice will be issued)
Once again crews will be working in the contaminated soil area, which will require extra safety and environmental steps to be taken during this process.
All businesses are open along the construction corridor, and there will be access for patrons during this time. For patrons visiting Cup A Joe, Nice Price Books & Records, and Pantana’s Pool Hall & Saloon, access to the parking lot off Daisy Street is still available from Clark Avenue to Daisy Street and by the driveway on Hillsborough Street to the west of Daisy Street.
Westbound through traffic will be detoured to Brooks Avenue to Wade Avenue to Faircloth Street, and eastbound traffic will be detoured to Faircloth Street to Wade Avenue to Brooks Avenue.
