The big news this week is that Dixie Trail will close to traffic at Hillsborough Street. The street is scheduled to close on Monday, October 9, and is estimated to remain closed through November 19. The closure is required while the City’s contractor installs sanitary sewer and water mains, storm drains, and the telecommunication and electrical duct bank located at the Dixie Trail intersection.
Patrons will still have access to East Village Bar & Grill and Tobacco Barn & Hookah Lounge from Dixie Trail, but access to Dixie Trail from Hillsborough Street will be closed. The driveway to East Village bar & Grill form Hillsborough Street will remain open during this work.
Other, construction activity along the corridor this week includes;
Private utility crews are scheduled to continue work on Shepherd Street, relocating telecommunication lines;
- PSNC is scheduled on the Shepherd Street this week to relocate gas lines;
- Carolina Conduit Systems is scheduled to continue installing the new telecommunication and electrical duct bank between Brooks Avenue and Dixie Trail;
- Weather permitting, more concrete curb and gutter is scheduled for installation later this week and next between Brooks Avenue and Dixie Trail; and,
- Southern Gardens is scheduled to have a crew start installing tree wells between Brooks Avenue and Dixie Trail.
While work continues on the north side of the corridor, it is extremely important to use all pedestrian detours. The detours are put into place for the safety of construction crews and pedestrians. Ignoring the detours will put yourself and others at risk of injury. Please be safe!
