The north side of Hillsborough Street is starting to come together. Dixie Trail is now open to traffic, although still in a temporary traffic pattern, and the new brick sidewalk is just about complete.
Pipeline Utilities closed Daisy Street early this week. The closure is needed while crews install the new storm drains at the intersection and down Daisy Street, followed by the hardscaping.
A crew also started work in front of East Village Grill & Bar this week. They are installing storm drains and prepping for the installation of the sidewalk. Next week, weather permitting, Pipeline Utilities will start grading operations and more stormwater work in the parking lot of East Village Grill & Bar. The East Village front parking lot will be closed while this construction takes place, but the business will remain open. Patrons will be able to enter the parking lot from the Dixie Trail and park along the north side of the parking lot, behind the business.
The next phase of construction along the street is the installation of the new medians and roundabouts. Weather permitting, there is a big traffic shift planned to take place Friday, Feb. 23, through Sunday Feb.25. The traffic signals along the corridor between Brooks Avenue and Shepherd Street will be removed, the new roundabout traffic pattern will be put in place, and traffic will be shifted to the outside lanes, allowing the construction of the medians and roundabouts. There will be more details about the traffic shift in next week’s update and the traffic shift will be the main topic at the February Construction Update Meeting next week.
The February Construction Update Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 13, at 2 p.m. at East Village Grill and Bar. During the meeting Project Manager, Richard Dickie will give an update on the status of the project and what to expect in the coming months, including news of a BIG traffic shift scheduled for the end of the February. We hope to see you there.
