Construction Update, August 8, 2016

Move in dates are this weekend for NC State students. Hillsborough Street is sure to busy, as new and returning students find their way back to school. The construction crews along Hillsborough Street are working around the clock trying to have things in order the best they can for this transition.

Last week crews installed a new 10’x 10’ electric manhole at the Brooks Avenue intersection and now are running the underground private utility duct bank from Brooks Avenue running west towards Dan Allen Drive.

This week the new water line and the electric duct bank is being installed on the south side of Hillsborough Street across the Dan Allen Drive intersection running west towards the private drive across from Bagwell Avenue. Contractors will maintain one lane of Dan Allen Drive open to traffic during the installation and police officers will be on hand to direct traffic into and out of Dan Allen Drive. Once across Dan Allen Drive crews will continue the water line installation up to the private drive across from Bagwell Avenue.

The Dan Allen Drive intersection will see more work next week, as PSNC crews are scheduled to install a gas line on the west side of Dan Allen Drive. They will have one lane closed to traffic for the duration of the week with flaggers on hand to direct traffic as needed.

During the nighttime hours, crews will be working at the intersection of Friendly Drive, installing the new sanitary sewer line. Crews are working in the middle of the intersection, and lane closures are required during this time. Flaggers will be directing traffic as this work is completed and Friendly Drive will be open to traffic during the daylight hours.

With all the construction along the street and students returning to school, please remember to drive slow throughout the work zone, keep an eye out for cyclists and pedestrians, and pay attention to all traffic shifts and detours. Be safe and have a great week.
