Construction Comes to the North Side

Posted Thursday, June 22, 2017

Hillsborough Street, Phase II has been quiet the last few weeks, but all that is getting ready to change.

Starting this weekend, the street will undergo a traffic shift. Pipeline Utilities will relocate the construction barricades to the north side and shift traffic to the south side of the street. While the new traffic pattern is being implemented, the contractor will close Hillsborough Street to through traffic so they can restripe the roadway. Businesses will remain open, and there will be access for local traffic with some restrictions.

Next week will bring construction activity to the north side of the street. PSNC will have their contractor ITS, relocating a gas line between Gardner Street and Brooks Avenue, tree protection and silt fencing will be installed along the north side, some grading work will begin at the Brooks Avenue parking lot, and a crew will start cutting the asphalt on the north side in preparation for the installation of new underground utilities.

The following week starts off quiet with the Holiday on Tuesday, but construction is scheduled to pick back up on Wednesday with crews starting to install the storm drain from Dixie Trail to Bagwell Avenue.

We will continue posting updates and the construction schedules to our website weekly and sending out construction bulletins throughout the project; we will also continue having our monthly construction update meeting (Coffee Talk) every second Tuesday of the month. We recently changed the time of the meeting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to better accommodate business owners and managers with hopes to see more people attend these informative meetings. Our next meeting will be at East Village on July 11, at 2 p.m., we hope to see you there.
